The Station Master's Garden was originally a small scrubby patch of unloved ground adjoining the station. It was adopted by the Off the Rails Project, with Transition Town Wivenhoe volunteers looking after it. It became a fertile and beautiful little oasis of peace, planted out with seasonal fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, using a wildlife-friendly approach. There is garden artwork and a mascot ‘scarecrow’ designed in memory of Wendy
the wonderful station cat. Many volunteers have left their mark on the garden, and in 2015, Melody Brooks took over looking after the area.
